Leona Helmsley and her heir, Trouble |

My Helmsley smile and my heir, Teddy |
Leona Helmsley was a famous hotel heiress, and after the death of her husband she made her will, leaving $12 million to her Maltese Poodle, "Trouble." She left her children and grandchildren nothing. It's been years since she passed, and "Trouble" had to 'git along little doggie' about a year ago. He never got to spend $12 million. A very mean judge cut his inheritance to a mere $2 million. Hardly enough for Milk Bones. If I had been Trouble's caretaker I would have bought the little guy his own golf cart, and maybe his own dog park, complete with dog pals. He'd have liked a pond to swim in and maybe a few rabbits or squirrels to chase. But I don't think he got any of those things. Like many big city dogs, he was mostly a couch ornament. As for friends, he probably didn't have any; they might have wrestled with him and messed up his hair.
Our dog Teddy survived his former owner, but he didn't come with an inheritance. On the contrary, he came with a bad haircut, heart disease, and an addiction to cheeseburgers and ice cream, much like me. In spite of his bad breath and bad habits, we're pretty fond of him. If he should survive us he gets the golf cart.
