Plane and Simple

One of my sons, let's call him Scott, was here today and somehow the subject of paper airplanes came up. I mentioned that I still had the tiny paper planes he folded when he was about 7 years old and extremely bored. I went to the Museum of Kid Stuff and retrieved a tiny attache case. We popped open the latches to find the three tiny planes.
"I didn't make those," Scott said, "Must have been someone else."
"Scott, please, I know who made what! I've treasured these little planes for 20 years, knowing they were crafted by your little hands. You were very proud of them."
"Sorry, Mom, never saw them before in my life. But the attache case is cool. Is that mine?"
"No, the attache case is mine."
Scott massaged his chin. "I'll bet I know who made those airplanes. Remember my friend Fahad who used to do my laundry for me?"
"I do remember him. I met him in the laundry room one day, and we shared stain removal tips."
"Well he's your guy. He made planes a lot."
I was at the same time saddenened by disillusion but heartened that I had saved something from Fahad's youth. "He was  nice kid," I mused, but I wish they were yours."
Scott gazed directly in my eyes with a glint of affection. "Can I have the attache case?"
