Just a little off the top, please

There's that annoying cowlick.
It's funny how little things can bother a person. For several days, every time I looked at our dog Teddy, all I could see was an annoying piece of hair sticking out of his head. This morning I took care of it.
Right from the get-go, things didn't go so well.  I was only going to trim that little piece, but one piece led to another and soon there was a lot of Teddy on the floor.
I tried the electric trimmers, but they kept jamming up in his hair. I switched to scissors for awhile, but I was truly afraid I would cut off something important.

They need to make little hedge trimmers for dogs. I can usually make the hedges in front of the house look pretty good, but Teddy was not looking so good. Every time I cut something on his left, I would have to cut it on the right, a little from the back; a little from the front. I know now why men in barbershops ask for "Just a little off the top, please."
I had to get scissors to cut the trimmer off.
And so it went, for what seemed like forever. Teddy got that little crazy look in his eye, and as the hair was billowing all over the kitchen, I began to sneeze and wheeze. The sneezing caused my hand to to jerk and so there were a few cuts I didn't mean to make. When that happened, I had to go back and make a similar cut elsewhere so he would look balanced.

We finally agreed that I had done enough. I let Teddy down from the counter and began to clean up the mess. He shook himself out and jumped up on a chair looking very sad. You wouldn't think a dog would know he looks ridiculous. People don't. I see them in Walmart all the time looking really weird.

I feel badly about his haircut, but there's nothing to do now but clean up.

The olives were pretty tasty!
